Houston is known for it’s diversity and considered one of the best places to live in Texas due to it’s affordability. Before moving to Houston, it’s recommended that one has living arrangements ready and a vehicle with insurance, and gas ready, prior to moving here. While Houston does have a public transportation system, it’s very congested and not convenient for the type of distances between places. It’s also important to know how to navigate the tropical storms and floods that occurs every now and then. On the flip side, Houston tends to have a lower than average cost of living and is considered a food haven for any culture or palate.

Houston is a vast metropolitan area and has a heavily multicultural population: two facts that may be of interest to anyone moving here. The enormity of what Houstonians term the “greater Houston area” is one of the things that make this city so unique. One need not necessarily reside within its city limits to claim Houston as one’s hometown, and even if residing in one of its many outlying suburbs, one still can experience the benefits of living in such a thriving metropolitan area. These benefits include, but are certainly not limited to, a growing job market, a wealth of options for entertainment, opportunities for socialization and networking, and the multiculturalism that makes Houston such a broadening and progressive place. It is to Houston’s credit that it is a city where you can be a part of almost any minority group and still find yourself at home.

Although famous for steak and various cuts of beef, Houston has a strong international cuisine culture. Because cuisine culture is treasured in the city, it is important to understand that meals together are seen as a moment to develop stronger bonds with your friends. Therefore, it is not uncommon for meals to last multiple hours, which may be seen as odd by those who are relocating from a more fast-paced city.
