The people here are very friendly to visitors and can offer assistance and guidance when asked. If you’re moving to Blantyre you’ll want to find a place near a market for easy access to everyday groceries at the cheapest of prices but if you prefer processed goods (particularly food) there are an array of supermarkets in the middle of the city for example Chichiri shopping mall. Depending on your budget the best quality houses and neighborhoods with tranquil streets can be found in suburbs such as Namiwawa, Nyambadwe, New Naperi, Chigumula just to name a few. However, beware of walking around at night (past 8pm to around 4am) as crime rates are high in most areas without busy 24-hour markets nearby.
Blantyre has a very low crime rate. You can move into any neighborhood and feel welcome because everyone is friendly, it feels like you have joined a family and not just moved into a new town. The climate is quite moderate, never too hot and never too cold. We have markets all around so we have fresh fruit and vegetables all year ’round.
