Exeter is an ancient city with a lot of history, beautiful countryside, and terrible traffic! It sits astride the River Exe, which is a tidal estuary only a few miles from the sea. The city was a major port for the textile industry in the 1600s and many of the old buildings remain today, still in use! It’s vibrant and active, with a large university campus in the north, and a diverse population.
