From bikinis to beachballs to boardwalks, here's what three local experts had to say about beaches in and near Madison, Connecticut.

Madison, Connecticut, was settled in 1641 and is 36.8 square miles with a population of 18,000. It is a shoreline town with a modest amount of tourism during the three months of summer. It was originally developed for ship building and commerce and still has the historic piers and active railways that enabled both of those. Today, downtown contains a row of boutique shops that sell antiques, beach supplies and handmade jewelry, and an eclectic mix of restaurants serving everything from steamed dumplings to the classic hamburger, and everything in between.

The street that runs through downtown is paved with brick, and lined with Dogwood trees. In the Spring, Artists flock to Madison to create artworks. There are miles of trails to hike, beaches to lounge, parks to play, a downtown to stroll and a large variety of stores and restaurants in which to shop and dine. Madison, CT is a diverse community steeped in the rich history of maritime industry, agriculture and commerce. For leisure, you can relax on the beach and swim in the ocean, enjoy coffee downtown at an outdoor café or explore the miles of hiking trails.

Someone who is interested in moving to Madison, CT should understand that it is a small suburban town. Madison has many beaches and parks. This makes it a nice family environment. The public schools in this town have impeccable reputations and most parents would be extremely satisfied with the education that his or her child would receive.
