Madison, Connecticut, was settled in 1641 and is 36.8 square miles with a population of 18,000. It is a shoreline town with a modest amount of tourism during the three months of summer. Today, downtown contains a row of boutique shops that sell antiques, beach supplies and handmade jewelry, and an eclectic mix of restaurants serving everything from steamed dumplings to the classic hamburger, and everything in between.
