Palacios, Texas, is a small town with a population of a little under 5,000 people located on the coast of South Texas. What makes the town unique is the cultural diversity, life on the water and the shrimping industry. Palacios has cultures from many different ethnicities. There are Asian, African American, Hispanic and Caucasian cultures. The Vietnamese village that many Vietnamese refugees settled in during the 1970s is a major part of the town and has led to the creation of restaurants and a community.

There are three Vietnamese restaurants in Palacios that are hotspots for authentic Vietnamese cuisine – Trans, The Point and Kim’s Kitchen. The Point is a special restaurant because it contains authentic Vietnamese food and Mexican dishes and is also a convenience store and a bait shop rolled into one. The Point was featured on an episode of the late Anthony Bourdain’s show Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.
