Medan is one of the most diverse cities in Indonesia, and foreigners are generally very welcomed. You will want to have a rideshare app like GoJek or Grab but with that it is very easy to get around. There are several nice hotels with decent prices. There isn’t much to do unique in the city except drink a ton of amazing coffee, so plan to get out to Bukit Lawan and see orangutans or Danau Toba for gorgeous lake views.

The weather could be very hot. I advise you to find a place to stay that got air conditioner. Be aware of your surroundings especially at night and try to avoid quiet places when you are alone, because Medan’s crime rate are relatively high.

Medan is a very nice place. It is very well known for the foods and friendly citizens. Also, it is a very safe place for tourists to explore too. Lake Toba is one of the main tourist attraction in Medan. It is the largest natural lake in the world.
