Linz is an often-forgotten gem along the Danube River. If one moves to Linz, there are a few key factors they should first consider. One of the most defining features of Linz is its long, wet, and dark winters. Therefore, a heavy winter coat and an umbrella are a must. Excellent German skills are also highly recommended, and one should learn a little bit of Upper Austrian dialect–although Linz is the third-largest city in Austria and has a large population of immigrants, English is not widely spoken. As a final tip, do not bring a car! Public transportation is well-funded and easily accessible, and limited parking means that owning a car is unnecessary. Follow these guidelines and this beautiful city is sure to reward any newcomer.
