The Cataract Gorge is beautiful and it is easy to get out of town and visit places around Tassie. One way streets are hard to learn, many businesses are transient and it can get very quiet mid week, particularly in the winter. During the colder months a smog will sit over the town due to wood fire use.
Launceston is a cool climate city, in which the weather changes throughout the day. Thereby, it is important to dress appropriately and perhaps have a light jumper close at hand to stay warm. There are a few nice walks to experience in the immediate city surrounds; the gorge walk and the seaport walk. Both are relatively flat and do not require you to wear hiking shoes. Both of the walks offer the person to experience the fresh air and peaceful environment of launceston city.
