If moving to Joetsu city, be aware of a few things. Firstly, the city is right next to the Japan sea, but has few beaches. Most seaside property is taken up by industrial factories. Secondly, the seafood is fresh, delicious, and easily available. Thirdly, since most people will not be spending much time at the beach, there is a wonderful park in the city center which I highly suggest to visitors. There are flower festivals twice a year, and a replica of Takada castle surrounded by a moat with koi fish. Japanese is widely spoken, with English opportunities far and few between.
