Windhoek is a beautiful city. The temperatures can rise to 35 degrees C in summer. We have many historical buildings which can be viewed. There are many lodges and bed and breakfasts around Windhoek with hiking trails, where you can escape to on weekends and enjoy nature at its best.

The weather can be hot and dry, drinking a lot of water during the day is recommended. Our city is quite small compared to cities such as london (about six times smaller). Most people who you will be in contact with do not make racist remarks, regardless of your skin tone.

The city I reside in is the capital of Namibia and is in the heart of the country. What I love most about this city is that it is surrounded by lush green bushveld in summer after the first rainfall and in spring the Jacaranda trees sport vibrant purple flowers, painting the city with blotches of color as the season changers from Spring to Summer.

Windhoek is a breathtaking city in the central of Namibia. During summer the heat is scorching hot and it can get up to -3 degrees cold in winter. The people are friendly and extroverted, so rest assured that you will make plenty friends. Windhoek is a city known for a local delicacy called “kapana” and that is something one should try out at least once in their lifetime. Namibia being a country where most of its population is in poverty, first timers should be wary of pickpockets when they visit Windhoek.

Prepare for summer because when Windhoek is hot, one needs to have their bikinis ready! Another note when it is winter time Windhoek is extremely cold. Windhoek is a small city, so making friends will be easy for a lot of extroverts. If you save enough money, assuming you are a student then living in Windhoek will not be very expensive though accommodation is very high in this part of the country.

We do not drink tap water, so be prepared to buy a filter or purified water from the shops. Sunscreen is a must because the sun gets really hot during the day. You must be vigilant at night, especially when you have to take a taxi. When we receive little to no rainfall, water becomes very expensive.
