I reside in Windhoek, Namibia. The top things someone needs to consider when moving to my city include, the accommodation cost which is not expenses at all, the housing cost are quite fare. In addition to this another thing to consider is the cost of living which is unfortunately high due to transport and other living costs.

It’s clean, vibrant and has unbelievable cultural diversity. Its property prices are extremely expensive, especially considering its size and location. Beside all that, Windhoek is listed among the world’s cleanest cities, both in Africa and worldwide. Its people are friendly, and it has minimal crime. It’s also surrounded by nature.

Be well versed in the English language as it is the national language of Namibia. Getting into a hotel or guest house is inexpensive, because of the growing tourism industry. Public transportation is relatively cheap, but be aware of robbers as you would any other place. Other than that, the people are very friendly and welcoming.

The price of cab to and from various locations within the city. Where Single Quarter is located for the best kapana. The locations to never visit alone in Katutura, especially if you’re new to town. Never go clubbing alone and always go drinking with people you really trust. Majority of cabs here are shared public transport, always greet people you find inside a cab, it is rude not to.

Prepare for summer because when Windhoek is hot, one needs to have their bikinis ready! Another note when it is winter time Windhoek is extremely cold. Windhoek is a small city, so making friends will be easy for a lot of extroverts. If you save enough money, assuming you are a student then living in Windhoek will not be very expensive though accommodation is very high in this part of the country.

We do not drink tap water, so be prepared to buy a filter or purified water from the shops. Sunscreen is a must because the sun gets really hot during the day. You must be vigilant at night, especially when you have to take a taxi. When we receive little to no rainfall, water becomes very expensive.
