Figure out how they will move around in Sofia as it’s quite large, there is loads of traffic and drivers here are not attentive whatsoever. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful place to walk around in, so if they enjoy walking, I would advise them to do so. Also, one should find a place to stay as soon as they can, being stranded here can be awful.
If you decide to move to Sofia, you should either have a car or be willing to use public transportation. It is a large city, around 20 kilometers in diameter so you need to have a way to move around. Another thing you need to know is that the city centre is expensive to live in, but there are numerous shops of all kinds, so you might find the best place near the centre.
Sofia is an absolutely beautiful city. There are many museums and galleries in the city center. They are easy to reach from almost any part of the town since the public transport network is very well developed. There are a lot of parks and gardens and even though Sofia is the capital of the country everything is relatively cheap.
Sofia is great city. A lot of places to eat and have fun, also very polite people. Although there is much air pollution and pretty dangerous traffic it’s a great city to be in in terms of work and studying. Peaceful and full of awesome food. Be ready to escape your typical crowded cities!
Most important piece of advice I’d give to newcomers is to choose their accommodation in close proximity to the underground or any big shopping mall. Also, consider practicing Bulgarian before or make sure you have access to a dictionary or have a friend that is familiar with the language and you can trust.
