The Cuyahoga National Park parallels the Canal. At the Canal Exploration Center, visitors learn about the area and how it changed the nation and the people who lived and worked along the Canal. The park receives more than 2.2 million recreational visits each year, making it one of the most visited national parks in the US. The park has many trails but most notably is the 20-mile Towpath Trail, which follows a former stretch of the 308-mile Ohio and Erie Canal and travels through Valley View. It is popular for hiking, bicycling, dog walking, and running.

Fourteen-Mile Lock is today Valley View’s most famous landmark, with Wilson’s Mill enjoying a record of 100 plus years of continuous operation grinding grains and selling agricultural products. The Ohio Canal in Valley View is one of the best-preserved sections to date. It is a constant reminder and monument to the laborers who carved an inland waterway for transportation across the county with primitive tools and limited resources.
