The hidden gem of my hometown of Valley View, Ohio, is that the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Ohio and Erie Canal, and Indian burial ground is part of it. The earliest inhabitants were probably the Mound Builders who left vast mounds of earth used as burial places scattered with artifacts. The Village of Valley View occupies a tiny section of what the early colonists called the unexplored “Indian Lands.”

Fourteen-Mile Lock is today Valley View’s most famous landmark, with Wilson’s Mill enjoying a record of 100 plus years of continuous operation grinding grains and selling agricultural products. The Ohio Canal in Valley View is one of the best-preserved sections to date. It is a constant reminder and monument to the laborers who carved an inland waterway for transportation across the county with primitive tools and limited resources.
