Harrisburg is the capital of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It was established in 1791 and became the capital in 1812. The city sits on the Susquehanna river, and is in the county of Dauphin. Tourist attractions in the area include Hersheypark, the National Civil War Museum, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania.

Someone moving to Harrisburg should know that although it could be considered a “big city” since it is the capital of Pennsylvania, it does not offer many of the luxuries that are frequently associated with big cities. For example, not many places in this city are open late. However, there are numerous gorgeous hiking trails nearby, and anyone who loves the outdoors will have plenty of opportunities to explore the many nearby state parks located just outside the city.
