Davis is one of California’s best-kept secrets. The town is filled with life and love. Youthful faces are around every corner, buzzing after a college class or a party. The UC Davis campus is full of green grass and tall buildings that would catch anybody’s eye. As you ride your bike through the downtown streets, you wonder how there was ever a time you did not call Davis your home.

Davis is a great place to live if you like to ride bikes. The terrain is relatively flat, and you can bike across the entire city in about 20 minutes. You should know, however, that the cost of housing is high. The town is a university town and it can be crowded during the school year.

Anyone moving to Davis, California, should know we’ve been nicknamed the “Bike Capital of America” due to the massive population of citizens who commute by bike. On any given road in Davis, there’s likely to be cyclists in the bike lane (especially in the heart of downtown). If you’re not used to being vigilant about cyclists, it can take a while to adjust to driving on Davis roads!

Davis is a sleepy college town. With a vibrant farmer’s market, ample bike lanes and the largest UC campus by area, this town is ideal for students wishing to avoid the bustle of the Bay Area. Although housing can be pricey, many parks and a stellar public library make this a great spot for families as well.
