If you’re thinking of moving to Tijuana and working in San Diego, you need to know how to get around. You will spend a lot of time waiting in line, whether walking or driving. Your US insurance policy won’t cover you in Mexico in a car accident. Many people leave their cars at trolley stations and walk into Tijuana. Parking at the border costs $8-$30 a day and it’s highest on the weekends. Taxis, Uber, and Ruta Taxis are all available at the border to drive you home.Taxis cost the most, Uber is usually ½ price of a taxi and accepts cash. A Ruta Taxi is a big van that stays on the main roads, so you may have to walk a few blocks to get home. A Ruta costs 10 to 25 pesos and you usually go to Centro and transfer to the Ruta that goes to your Colonia. There are no fixed bus stops. Just call out where to let you off. That’s how we get around!
