Visalia, California, was town of agriculture and nature. It was unique in the sense that there was so much nature around the town. However, as time has passed, the image of what it used to be started to fade. Visalia started to grow into a city. The division between the social classes has also become more evident, with simply crossing the road. What first seemed to be united, has fallen. Some schools were given the opportunity to join the Science Olympiad team while others were not even given a chance, the difference being the amount of money the parents had in their bank account.

Since Visalia is one of the biggest towns within a close radius, the school district does not have to deal with teacher retention. It is rare for new teachers to start the school year. As a result, students are guaranteed to have teachers who have experience in the classroom. At the downtown library, kids can get their first library card at the young age of 5.
