Michigan State University draws a diverse collection of students and young professionals to the city of East Lansing from all over the world, and is what gives the community its vibrancy and color. The quintessential college town is home to a wide variety of restaurants, museums, and other cultural attractions. However, finding quality housing on a budget can be difficult, as the city hosts a large undergraduate population and many apartment complexes close to the university are overpriced and cheaply built.

Lansing is a moderate sized city and is the capital of Michigan. Though it was hit by the exodus of the automotive industry years ago it has been slowly recovering. Housing is reasonably priced compared to the nation as a whole. Neighboring East Lansing is a college town and brings much culture to what might otherwise be a purely blue collar town. Because of this there are many interesting features such as an eclectic array of restaurants, a theater showing Broadway plays and symphonies, and local sporting events.

When contemplating the best places to live in Michigan, one should not discount East Lansing. Though it is a college town, East Lansing has a myriad of activities for older residents who do not attend the local university. For example, East Lansing has a wonderful downtown that is full of shops, restaurants, and more! The further one lives from the heart of campus, the more quaint the town feels.
