At first Burdwan is a city enriched with historical essence. Burdwan is an anglicised version of the Sanskrit Vardhamana. It has a multicultural heritage. Temples explored here are reminiscent of Bengali Hindu architecture. Coming to food -Sitabhog and Mihidana are two famous sweets to honour His Majesty. Rice here is the staple food and agriculture is the main source of income. The economy of modern Burdwan is growing fast. Two large development projects on public private partnership are NH2 connecting Kolkata and Delhi on which the township lies and the mini township in Goda.
