There is a vast assortment of restaurants, mom and pop shops, and activities around the city. If one were to drive from Downtown Suffolk to Northern Suffolk, they would see the prevalent difference in people, places, and citylife. Suffolk is most known for Peanuts, as it is called the Peanut City. Every month, it hosts a Peanut Fest and a Peanut Fest Parade. Suffolk residents in High School have the opportunity to become Peanut Fest royalty each year. Suffolk schools also chose representatives from each high school to perform at the Peanut Fest.

Suffolk, in the Hampton Roads or Tidewater region of southeastern Virginia, was listed as one of the best small cities to live in America in 2010. At that time, the overall population of Suffolk was 84,585 but Suffolk is the largest city in Virginia in terms of boundary land area. Suffolk has an annual Peanut Festival due to its history with Planters Peanuts. Suffolk is less than an hour way from Norfolk, home to the largest United States Naval base in the world.

The Peanut Fest Parade is an unforgettable experience. Marching bands, ruritan clubs, cheer teams, bikers clubs, and many more organizations line up in support of the city. Some groups hand out candy and snacks while parading through the streets of Downtown Suffolk.
