Vancouver, although located in Washington state, is a fairly quiet suburb of Portland, Oregon. Slightly more affordable, and much safer. A great number of people that live in Vancouver work in Oregon. And so commuting is a major pain. There are only 2 bridges crossing the Columbia River between Vancouver and Portland. So plan on traffic. Vancouver is growing quite rapidly over the 22 years I’ve lived here. There was very little traffic when I first moved here. Not anymore. Average home prices were around $140k when I moved here. Now they average 450k. Apartments have exploded everywhere! Any and all available land has some type of building on it now.
Vancouver, WA is a relatively large urban sprawl. The metro area has grown significantly in the last ten years and traffic has greatly increased. The local housing market is very high at the moment. Summers here have an average temperature of eighty degrees, while winters’ average temperature is about 30 degrees.
If someone were moving to Vancouver, I should like them to know it is an excellent city. It is a very short drive from the city of Portland, and closely located to Mt. St. Helens, the Columbia River Gorge, and various other outdoor attractions. Vancouver itself is also very nice. A reasonably sized downtown is home to many nice restaurants and shopping opportunities, there is a mall, and there is enough space that one can live comfortably and affordably.
