From buying a car to purchasing groceries to following the latest fashion trends, here's what three local experts had to say about shopping in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

Be very cautious and avoid travelling on foot at night. There are malls and shopping centers outside of town. The CBD, particularly between Shell Garage and Just On, is a crime hot-spot. Try to avoid it and be aware of your surroundings if you need to be there. Otherwise it’s a busy town with all the shops you will need.

HELPFUL REPORT

Umtata is a bustling city, the economy is growing and so is the population. This means high traffic volumes in a underdeveloped place. Inefficient public administration due to corrupt governance means you will spend a lot of time complaining about simple municipal services that could be functioning better. A great place to introduce new products and services and make lots of money. Not so great if you want a peaceful existential experience.

Mthatha has a mall, museum and a fun place for kids to play. People in my city are so welcoming and lovely. It is a city of love. There is a place we call Langeni where trees are grown for factories that manufacture furniture and papers. Every person you meet is smiling. We greet people we don’t even know on the streets.
