Calamba received its name based on a myth where two Spanish soldiers inquired about the town’s name from a woman who was selling homemade pottery. Due to a language barrier, the woman mistakenly believed the soldiers were inquiring about her pottery, which led her to respond with “Kalan Banga.” The soldiers, misunderstanding her response as the name of the town, began calling it “Kalanbanga” which eventually evolved into “Calamba.”

The weather here is humid. Although humid once rain starts to pour, it gets really chilly. Speaking Tagalog is a must, but speaking English is also acceptable, given that people here know enough to talk English. It is a friendly city, full of friendly people, who would likely help people out.
