From dinosaurs to explorers to wars, here's what three local experts had to say about the history of Coventry, England.

With an abundance of history to uncover, Coventry is perhaps most famous for the cathedral that stands proud as the true heart of the city. Streets that were once ravaged by the blitz were also walked by Lady Godiva, who gives her name to the music festival that brings so many people together yearly. The true hidden gems of Coventry, however, are the villages on the outskirts of this city, with beautiful, untarnished countryside as far as the eye can see.

HELPFUL REPORT

Someone moving to the city of Coventry should know the importance of its history. The cathedral, which was rebuilt after the blitz that happened in World War 2, is a mark of history and is a popular tourist site. There is a lively city centre and nightlife with lots of big name brands and stores. Different areas of the city display different cultures. For example, Foleshill area is renowned for the Indian cuisine and garments which are available.

Whilst Coventry is seen as a diverse city, winning the award for City of Culture 2021 does not take away the harrowing rate of robberies and knife crimes that occur. However, Coventry carries a significant piece of history; the remains and ruins of a destroyed Cathedral which was bombed during The Blitz. With ever growing student accommodation buildings, the city seems a perfect fit for students who would prefer to move to Coventry rather than commute.
