Windsor is a city with roots in the automotive trade. This is because Windsor has deep ties to Detroit, the centre of the American automotive trade, which is just across the Detroit River. For many years, Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler had factories here. Because of budget cuts though, Windsor has fewer automotive plants; and therefore, the rate of unemployment has increased.

The cost of living in Windsor is desirable compared to many other cities in Canada. Windsorites also benefit from living in a border city; Detroit, MI really is an extension of WIndsor. Being a border city also opens the gate to more activities and travel destinations that are close to home.
