Columbus contains a large military community. Thus, the population is highly transient. Soldiers from all over the United States travel here to train and work both temporarily and for long periods of time. Finding suitable housing can be difficult because of this fact. If you are planning on a move to Columbus, start your search early.

Someone intending to move to Columbus, Georgia, should consider that it is a city full of commuters. Many workers commute in daily from surrounding towns such as Hamilton, Fortson, Cataula, and Phenix City. Consequently, there is heavy traffic each morning around 8:00 AM and heavy traffic each evening around 5:00 PM. Additionally, many people are not aware of Columbus’s size until they move here. Shockingly, Columbus is the second largest city in Georgia behind Atlanta.

The lanes to merge onto highway 185 from exits 10 through four are very short and dangerous. You have about 500 feet to merge while other cars attempt to exit the highway from the same merger lane. This is a scary experience for first-time visitors, and all should know the unusual and dangerous highway conditions.
