Old Town is peaceful and always has local events for families to come out to, with carnivals and street festivals throughout the summer and winter months. Every new year, a grape drop in front of the town hall, where a large set of grapes gets lowered to celebrate the upcoming year. There is a balloon and wine festival with a balloon lighting ceremony, lots of drinks, and plenty of entertainment that occurs in May.

The city of Temecula is best known for the winery and night life it has to offer. I love to spend the day at the wineries listening to live music with family and or friends. We always “winery hop” as we call it just to see what the atmosphere is like at other wineries.

Temecula, California, has a population of just over 110,000 people. Temecula is located in Riverside County, which is in between San Diego and Los Angeles but inland. It is often called Old Town Temecula, but it is a city. Temecula’s sister city is Murrieta, and one of the landmarks in Temecula is the Pechanga Indian Reservation. One of the primary sources of tourism is the wineries. The Temecula Valley Wine Country boasts over 40 wineries sprawled across more than 3,500 acres.

Rancho California got incorporated in 1989, where the citizens voted to name the town Temecula officially. Temecula is a quaint town filled with agriculture with plenty of local activities. The commitment to education is one that is known throughout the area.

Old Town Temecula has historic buildings, hotels, museums, and restaurants. Home to Temecula Stampede and weekly farmers market, there is much to experience. Looking into the history of Temecula before the 1800s, there were multiple bands of Native Americans. The most notable is the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians that believed they had inhabited the land for more than 10,000 years. Temecula was initially known as Temeekunga or “the place of the sun,” or “The sun that shines through the mist.” It is believed that Spanish and American settlers came somewhere around 1800, which created some conflict.

Be aware of packed highways due to construction. The food here is a mix of dining and fast food, with little privately owned stores. Finally, the weather here is constantly warm, so a person must get used to the heat.

Temecula is a city along the southernmost side of Riverside County. Though it is a popular tourist destination, known for its wineries and casino, Temecula is a safe, suburban area where people move to settle down and raise a family. Over 100,000 people live in Temecula, but this city feels like a small town where everyone knows everyone.
