On April 22, 1859, the first inland Southern California post office was established in Temecula. That gave way to the Butterfield Overland stagecoach line adding Temecula to its route between St. Louis and San Francisco. The road later was known as Butterfield Stage Road, which travels throughout Temecula. In the 1920s and 30s, the town was predominantly made up of cowboys with the Old Western lifestyle taking over. In the 1960s and 70s, significant change overcame the city with engineers, contractors, heavy-equipment operators, and real estate agents driving out many cowboys.

Each winery also offers an option as a wedding venue. You can see all of Temecula through the hot air balloon rides the wineries also offer.
