While quality of life is something of an elusive or ill-defined concept, it can be boiled down to "Is Lancaster a good place to live?" or "Is Lancaster a bad place to live?" Here's what one local expert had to say about quality of life and overall happiness in Lancaster, California.

This city located in the Antelope Valley is a high desert community. It has temperature extremes from hot to below freezing in the winter with frequent high winds. It offers all the malls, fast food, and Walmarts you would expect in any Southern California community. It’s main attraction is lower real estate pricing. Many people make the long commute to the Los Angeles area daily to make a living. There is a college, libraries, aerospace employment, Costco, and nearby Edwards Air force base with bi-annual air shows. Some nice neighborhoods and some that are the pits. Water is scarce, but outside of town there is limited agriculture. If you are retired and can live indoors with heating and A/C it can be a good place to retire to if you can put up with the weather.
