This city located in the Antelope Valley is a high desert community. It has temperature extremes from hot to below freezing in the winter with frequent high winds. It offers all the malls, fast food, and Walmarts you would expect in any Southern California community. It’s main attraction is lower real estate pricing. Many people make the long commute to the Los Angeles area daily to make a living. There is a college, libraries, aerospace employment, Costco, and nearby Edwards Air force base with bi-annual air shows. Some nice neighborhoods and some that are the pits. Water is scarce, but outside of town there is limited agriculture. If you are retired and can live indoors with heating and A/C it can be a good place to retire to if you can put up with the weather.

You will never be lost in Lancaster. Everything is divided into an easily understood grid and everything is connected by a large highway, US-14. Although this is technically the desert, the beaches are only a few hours away. The heat can be unbearable in summer but winters are cool and pleasant. With Los Angeles only an hour away, it’s easy to take a weekend trip into the city without having to deal with the exorbitant prices that come with a city apartment. Lancaster isn’t much, but it has its perks.
