Chiang Mai, Thailand, is a great place, but the decision to move should be thoroughly considered. If you are not a Thai speaker, Chiang Mai can provide an introduction to learning the language. Since many tourists pass through this city, a lot of the locals can speak some English. There are also many language schools to choose from. Beyond language learning, Chiang Mai is a great place to experience Thai culture and traditions.

Chiang Mai is a beautiful city in Northern Thailand, but unfortunately, I cannot recommend living here during the hot season. From late February until late May, agricultural burning and forest fires in the mountains create horrendous smog which is very detrimental to one’s health. Fortunately, the monsoon rains come in June which clean the air.
