In the spring the mountains which dominate El Paso’s skyline are covered in beautiful yellow poppies, yucca and cacti. The view is enhanced by beautiful sunrises and sunsets. El Pasoans can enjoy these spectacular views when using the many multi-use trails for hiking and biking which are scattered throughout the desert and on the mountains. Music and dance festivals, sporting events, shopping, museums, and historical sites provide not only entertainment but show the rich culture the city’s 400 year history.

El Paso is home to several professional sports teams: the El Paso Chihuahuas minor league baseball team, the El Paso Rhinos hockey team, the El Paso Locomotive soccer team as well as being home to the University of Texas at El Paso which features NCAA basketball and football games. El Paso is home to the Sun Bowl – the second-oldest bowl game in the country. El Paso is a great place to shop with numerous malls and outdoor marketplaces as well as “mom and pop” stores that sell culturally based items not found in many other parts of the country.

El Paso is a family friendly, mid sized city with some of the best Mexican food you will ever have the pleasure of eating. We have a beautiful mountain range that dissects the city with Mexico just a hop, skip and a jump away. El Paso is very rich in history and outdoor recreation.

El Paso is an incredibly unique city. Situated directly on the Texas- Mexico border, it is rich in Mexican American culture and diversity. The people are exceptionally friendly, ready to accept all newcomers with open arms. El Paso is also home to Franklin Mountain State Park; providing ample opportunities for hiking and other outdoor activities.

Outdoor concerts at the Chamizal National Memorial are held monthly throughout the summer and local bands, singers and dance troupes are featured as people congregate on the lawn and enjoy the entertainment with their families. The Plaza Theater, built in 1930, is home to one of only six Wurlitzer 1071 pipe organs ever made. The Theater shows movies daily during the summer hours and is the stage for many Broadway musicals as they tour the country.

El Paso is and always has been very friendly. When you first encounter our city, it may seem oblivious to everything and everyone. But if the time comes that a neighbor, or any city resident, needs help, then the warmth and caring of El Pasoans comes out. We are finally starting to become more cultural. Things that I never saw when I was a child I now get to see — like theater, opera, outdoor activities, etc.
