Is Traverse City boring? Is it fun? How do people relax in their free time? From playing and watching live sports to listening to live music to volunteering, here's what four local experts had to say about things to do in Traverse City, Michigan.

Traverse City is the gem of the mid-west. It’s growing like gang-busters, on beautiful Lake Michigan and boasts outdoor activities for four seasons. The town is diversifying, which is awesome. It has lots to do – food, music, nature, a community college, excellent public library system. Downside – housing has gotten so expensive that it is pricing lots of folks out. If you have a place to live, then you’re gonna love it!

HELPFUL REPORT

Traverse City is economically dependent on tourism. A significant portion of local businesses cater to travelers. These vary from budget to luxury hotels, inexpensive to fine-dining restaurants, and world-class golf venues to free walking tours. Most visitors take advantage of warmer weather in the summer months, but the area is also known for excellent skiing in winter.

Traverse City is a stunning town on Lake Michigan. Although summers can become crowded with tourists flocking to the local festivals, there are many trails hidden in the rolling hills where one can escape from the crowd. Winters see a decrease in the amount of tourists. This is when the locals come out of their homes and head to the lake for ice-fishing and the slopes for skiing.

Traverse City is an awesome vacation spot with lakes in every direction, Caribbean blue water in the bay, and friendly locals everywhere you go. There are wineries and vineyards you can tour or breweries if beer is your thing. The restaurants are eclectic and often serve locally sourced meat and produce.
