Longwood is 5.6 square miles and is a short distance from the hustle and bustle of Orlando, Florida. One of the remarkable aspects of the community is the area called, Paint The Trail. Artist Jeff Sonksen shares his creativity on the Seminole Wekiva Trail as he paints the fences that back along the trail. One beautiful nature preserve is Lake Lotus. Lake Lotus was settled in the early 1800s and is approximately 150 acres of woods and wetlands. There is a playground, bathroom facilities and a fun place to take the entire family for a nature scavenger hunt! If you are looking to spot alligators then look no further than Lake Jessup! Lake Jessup is in the neighboring city of Sanford and about a ten (10) minute car ride away. Lake Jessup is named after Brigadier General Thomas Jesup (1788-1860) who was involved in the 1835- 1842 Second Seminole War. There are so many alligators in the lake that they are quite visible from the roadway! Longwood, Florida, is in Seminole County and home to some of the best school districts in the state.
