The History of Williamston, Michigan

Williamston, Michigan, is a small, rural town with not a whole lot going on. The town consists of a population of about 4,000 people but the surrounding area is what makes up a lot of the town. Williamston is unique for its geography, our town history, the outstanding academic program, its abundance of antiques and restaurants, and its people.
The Williams brothers were the first to settle in Williamston and originally created a mill right on the bank of the red cedar downtown. The mill no longer stands today but there is a historic monument around its location honoring the humble beginnings of the town. Traditions are something Williamston values greatly. Traditions like the annual jubilee, friday night football, and memorial day parade provide a strong sense of community and that small town feel. Jubilee is a community wide celebration that takes place in July. Every year there are multiple events like a food tent, tractor pull, and parade.
