Although there is a Walmart in the adjacent town of Canandaigua, Gorham’s main street has a small market that carries the essentials. The front window is plastered with such advertisements as the high school play and the boy scout pancake breakfast. It has a picnic table just inside the doorway, where the local farmers gather to share stories and a cup of coffee, and a large freezer stocked with ice cream novelties for the kids who get overheated riding their bikes through town.
Gorham can be described as a sleepy little town, except on Memorial Day when you might catch the parade, the second Saturday in July when it hosts the annual town garage sale day, or during the annual Pageant of Bands when bleachers are set up in front of the elementary school and regional high school marching bands descend upon the town for the competition.
