Leicester has the feel of a sprawling city and one of its chief characteristics is that there is a large student population. This means that some areas hold a feeling of transience and little in the way of community spirit. there are benefits associated with being a two-university city; there are many lively bars and some decent bands play at local venues. There is a thriving cultural scene and the city’s theatre has an excellent reputation. Whilst the city itself can seem grimily urban, you can quickly find yourself in the surprisingly lovely Leicestershire countryside and there are some well-loved and impressive parks both in the city centre and further afield.
