Tips for Moving and Visiting

If you move to Adana be ready for unexpected power outages, street wedding parties that last all day and night, the azan blasting 5 times a day, flowed by a loud broadcast of some kind of religious reading that last 10-15 minutes each time. People here don’t know the concept of give ‘personal space’ when you talk, or walk. Probably 3 out of every 10 smell of bad B.O., which makes the “in your face” conversation even worse. Parents here, both mother & father, treat their children in a way that if seen in other civilized countries would be considered child abuse. Meaning they hit, slap, and speak to them rudely and angrily, (which is why the culture is as it is. Men can legally hit their spouse because they claim their religion says women are unequal to men. The traffic is outrageous. Many large areas where 4-5 streets meet, like a 4 way, and there’s no yield or stop signs. They literally all believe it’s their right to go so it’s a game of who’s the most aggressive and unwilling to yield. And to top it off, pedestrians have absolutely zero rights, even when there’s a crosswalk. Drivers will not stop, instead they will honk and yell to get out of the way.
