the first thing to be mindful of would have to be traffic; although it’s a student town, one can’t underestimate the amount of cars on the streets at any given time. The pedestrian traffic isn’t much better – you must always watch out for people going to and fro the various shops, restaurants and other venues.

Waterloo is a mid-sized city with a population of around 113,000. There are two major universities and one college in the region, and many students live in the area for the duration of their studies. It’s known for being the home of a number of research centres, such as the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. Waterloo Region, which includes Waterloo and surrounding cities, has just built and begun to operate a light-rail transit system that runs from the north end of Waterloo to the south end of Kitchener.
