A hike to Monkey Face is not tedious nor arduous, but a picturesque uphill view that is astonishing when met with a stunning sunset. Looking up to Monkey Face, it lives up to its name with an image of a monkey sketched into the natural hill. Seeing the scene from on top, Horseshoe Lake drifts calmly as fishing rods are plastered around it. Hiking past Monkey Face brings you to multiple swimming holes, the most popular is Bear Hole, a mile walk from the parking area that is stationed in front of Monkey Face. It has grey boulders and the water current is not strong. The greenery adds an aesthetic view to the scene.

Chico, California, has many culturally contrasting concepts laced throughout this city. There are hectic freeways, shopping centers with a Starbucks inside a Target, and a college in the heart of downtown. There are miles of orchards, the hiking trails of Monkey Face and the Sacramento River. The differences in this city are illustrated by its citizens who accept the differences in color, language and other beliefs.

The stores are conveniently placed together, the mall a walking distance from Target which sits across from a Hobby Lobby. Across the street is a Best Buy connected to other stores such as PetSmart and Old Navy, and next to this small shopping center is a Winco. Four restaurants and an In & Out lay waiting on the other side of Hobby Lobby. There are lines of orchards trailing on the outer part of Chico. Almond trees leave a green blur when driving, and the pink blossoms are the background of many family photos in the spring.

Chico is a “college city”, where a lot of the population is under the age of 25. It is a gorgeous city and has many beautiful nature opportunities. If you find joy in hiking or other physical activities, it is a great place to observe.
