Gillette has a large underground art district with many well-known artists from all over the US and world who live and work in the large town. There are many sculptures throughout the town as well as galleries. Many of the artists are also instructors at the schools, while still being active professional artists. The advanced art classes in the junior high and high schools are at a college level. The state of Wyoming also started a state-wide art competition that goes on yearly, where every high school art program, and student has a chance to compete.

Gillette, or Campbell county as it is most often called, is most known for the large coal mines. Miles outside of the town coal mines run 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. They power a large percentage of the US’s power (while being closely monitored). All of the adolescents have taken classes on it at some point during their education, in order to educate the towns citizens and youth on the mine’s importance, and how it functions with the environment.
