Darjeeling is a small touristy town, at the Himalayan foothills with long monsoons, characterized by incessant rain with thick fog for almost three months in a year. The temperature drops down to -2 degrees during winters. However, it is during the brief summer in May and pleasant pre winter of October and November that the town’s scenic beauty can be appreciated. Built as a summer retreat during the British colonization, the town surrounded by world-famous tea plantations and is dotted with schools, institutions, cafes and restaurants of that era. The town centre is very small and can be covered in an hour’s walk, and most of the shops cater to tourists. The place is very laid back and has no nightlife but has a few Pubs with local live bands playing during the weekends.
