Wabash, Indiana was the first electrically lighted city in the world. They accomplished this by attaching four brush lights to the top of the courthouse. Witnesses who gathered on the lawn below stated that it looked like the middle of the day. Wabash was also one of the canal towns along the Wabash and Erie Canal route for several years before it was shut down due to the rise of the railroads.

Our city has two state reservoirs, and several wildlife parks. We were awarded a stellar grant three years ago allowing for downtown restructuring and the results are beautiful. We host an annual Chili Cook-Off which brought 10,000 last year. Our population is just under 30,000 residents, which allows for a closely knit community. This is also a large factor in our crime and unemployment rates remaining below the national standard.
