An excellent, comfortable, and safe lifestyle for expats with a tight knit community and lovely options for housing. Small-town feeling. Weather can be challenging with extreme heat and thick fire smoke for 2 months of the year.
Vientiane is unlike the other sprawling metropolises, such as Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh City, that typically springs to mind when thinking of cities in southeast Asia. Instead, it is a much sleepier, more relaxed town, with far less happening. Nonetheless, one cannot help but be charmed by this much underrated gem.
The weather in Vientiane is harsh, and at times, unbearable. There isn’t much going on but the relaxed cafe culture is something to be desired. Vientiane’s location is ideally in the middle of Southeast Asia, making it an ideal location to explore the region. The city is awash with colonial French and traditional Lao architecture.
