Stillwater is a small college town with a friendly atmosphere. Historic downtown maintains the appeal of small shops and local businesses, while Perkins offers the opportunity to shop at retailers found nationwide. While the college students do leave in summer, the year-round residents are inviting and keep the welcoming nature of the town alive. However, be aware that construction often occurs during summer so as to avoid inconveniencing the college students during the school year.

Someone moving to Stillwater should know it is a college town in Oklahoma; therefore, at night, it can sometimes get very noisy downtown. However, many college students leave the town during summer, so it is less busy then. It is also very dry; it rarely rains in summer.
