St. Rose is a small town in southern Illinois where the main industry is farming and agriculture. Because there are only about 600 people in the entire town, it is a very tight-knit community where everybody knows everybody. The town is one of the smallest towns in the county. It only takes about 10 minutes to walk from one side of it to another. However, there are a lot of people who live out in the country that do have to take a car. Even at that though, it only takes about ten to fifteen minutes to get from one of the outer edges of town to another.

HELPFUL REPORT

People from outside of town come to Popeye’s Chop House. It is popular to everyone traveling through the area. People come from out of state to try their good food and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. It is a restaurant that is a little more expensive than most in the area and the only place in St. Rose that brings in crowds from all over.

Even though the town is small it still has some uniqueness to it. Because it is so small, everybody talks to everybody. It doesn’t matter if you’re old, young, a teenager or a college kid. Even if you don’t know someone personally, you at least know their name and the general area of where they live. The town comes together to celebrate, comfort, and mourn each other when needed and as a whole, we have a very friendly community.

There’s not a lot of places to go in the town or even in the surrounding towns. The majority of the people in the town are Catholics who go to church once a week. There is one bar in the town where people from all over the county go to play in sand volleyball tournaments that the owners host. There is one little store named Wessels that is like a grocery store but is too small to actually be one.

Saint Rose is a very quiet, personal town. The people are supportive of everyone and are genuinely happy for everybody else’s successes. The town’s not like big cities or even just bigger towns where nobody recognizes your face or name. The people know you and generally even know a little bit about you by reading the papers or hearing about you through family friends. St. Rose is a small, quiet town where people love personally knowing the people in the town.
