Spokane, Washington, is located in the inland northwest and is a city that experiences four seasons per year. The seasons can be somewhat extreme and people considering moving to Spokane should keep this in mind. Spokane is the second largest city in Washington state and still somehow has a small city feel to it.

The Pacific Northwest is beautiful! Spokane is a little big city on the east side of Washington State, nestled between Seattle and the lakes of North Idaho. People flock to the region to enjoy an equal mix of big city life and country living. Even celebrities like Mark Wahlberg and the Kardashians have recently been spotted in the area!

Spokane, WA, is a small city, famous for the clock tower that resides in the center of Riverfront Park. Many come from all over to slide down the Red Wagon’s metal handle and scour the shelves of Auntie’s Bookstore and Uncle’s Gameshop. The IMAX theater, though recently shut down, used to play nature and space documentaries I used to see on school field trips. Spokane feels like a home to anyone who is so kind.

If you’re moving to Spokane, you need to be prepared to commute to work. Spokane is tied with Tacoma as the second biggest city in Washington, and though many jobs exist, they’re centralized in locations far from most housing. Also, invest in hiking boots! There are plenty of hiking trails and parks surrounding Spokane Valley. Taking your time to get out in nature and explore the scenery is a fantastic way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city itself.

When moving to Spokane, potential residents should evaluate whether the city’s low population and close-knit community feel like a good fit for their lifestyle. Spokane’s small-town atmosphere creates a sense of kinship among residents; however, it can also feel claustrophobic. Spokane’s inhabitants certainly get to know each other well, a factor that should be taken into consideration when debating a move to the city.
