Shanghai is an expensive city. Compared to other provinces in China, Shanghai has one of the highest standards of living in the country. However, it’s understandable; Shanghai touts some of the finest foods I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting.
Shanghai has a high population density, so those who enjoy crowds and social interaction are likely to adapt more quickly. Second, there is a wide variety of subcultures within this metropolis, so people should be able to find communities with similar lifestyles and interests. Third, this city is quite convenient to live in, with a well-developed transportation system and adequate medical facilities. It’s a wonderful place for those who don’t mind crowds.
Shanghai is the largest city in the world by most measures. Although the proportion of expats is much higher than other cities in China, they still only amount to around 1% of the population. Therefore, some knowledge of the Chinese language is useful for day to day life in the city.
